Customizable Portfolio View
Overview
Enable customers to have more control over the information shown on the Project Portfolio screen by allowing them to chose which fields to display and their arrangement. Imagine combining the Forms’ list builder with the current Portfolio view builder.
Customer issue or problem
Project.net currently maintains 29 customer-visible project properties, of which, it displays 10 on the Project Portfolio page. While users have great control over the filter that selects the projects shown on the Portfolio page, they have no control over which of these 29 properties are displayed. When the accompanying “Project Meta-data proposal” is implemented, this will become even more of an issue; customers want to see this data displayed
Description
When creating a new Project Portfolio View, let users select which properties to display in the columns on the Project Portfolio page, the order and width of those columns,
Scenario
- User opens the Project Portfolio workspace.
- From next to the drop-down menu of portfolio views, the user selects “Manage Views”.
- The “Manage Views” screen appears (Note the blue colors in this mock-up are incorrect).
- From this screen the user chooses the properties he or she wishes to see, along with their visual appearance. He also specifies the sort order for the projects.
- He or she uses the “Apply Property Filters” tab to specify which projects he or she wants to see in the Portfolio Workspace, based upon filter criteria. The user can apply a filter to a property regardless whether that property is displayed in a column.
- The “Pick Other Projects to Include” tab works the same as it does today.
Features
Must Have
- See the attached mocked-up screen shots for a possible UI
- There are several ways to list the field selector and filter criteria on the page. It can be listed in related groups, with the most likely to be used properties first or, possibly, in alphabetical order.
- Note: Much of this functionality currently exists in the Form Designer List View sub-tab or the existing Project Portfolio Manage View tab. Hopefully, this will speed development.
- Maintain the current “Project Property Filters” and “Pick Other Projects to Include” sub-tabs, except:
- Move the sorting options from the “Project Property Filters” page to the “Select Fields to Display” page.
- For each project property:
- Select whether the property will be displayed display in the columns on the Project Portfolio page
- Which column it should occupy
- The width of the column, as a percentage of the total width.
- Whether to wrap the contents of a column if it is wider than the designated space, or
- Whether this field should be indented on the line below the other properties.
- For numeric fields should have the option to sum the total of the values at the bottom of the column for that property.
